Hut to hut tour Sella Ronda

Hut to hut tour Sella Ronda

Are you looking for a short break and do you want to ski a fantastic group tour? Then this hut-to-hut tour Sella, Ronda and Marmolada in the Dolomites is what you are looking for. Via Lagazuoi and the hidden valley we will enter the Sella Ronda. We follow this famous route, but also look for quieter slopes.

4 days around the Sella Ronda

In 4 days we will ski an unforgettable group tour in which we will do the world famous Sella Ronda, but also much more. For example, we will ski the longest descents in the area, we'll eat the best apfelstrudel in the Dolomites along the way and end up at the bottom of the Marmolada.

Before and after the tour you will sleep in B&B Villa Vittorio.
As we are relatively close to Venice, we are also easily accessible by plane. Perfect for a short break! From Venice Airport it is about a 1:15 hours drive to Forno di Zoldo. There are also busses running to Longarone (about 1 hour), which is located at the beginning of our valley. From there we can arrange a transfer for you.

Check the day to day program below:

Day 1 At height

On this first day of our trip, after a good night's sleep in B&B Villa Vittorio, we'll start our ski hut tour in the quiet Civetta ski area. We go to Pescul, where we will take the bus to the 5 Torri ski area. From there we continue to Lagazuoi, where we'll spend the night at an altitude of 2700 m.

The first thing we will do on this second day, is descending through the hidden valley to get to the Sella Ronda, of which we will do a large part. We sleep in a special refuge near to Santa Christina.

The third day already. We will ski the beautiful, long descent to Ortisei and of course stop at Anna's Tal for the best apfelstrudel in the entire Dolomites. After this excursion we return to the Sella ronda and ski via Arabba to the foot of the Marmoalda, where we will spend the night in an authentic rifugio.

The last day of our beautiful ski hut tour. We will rise early to take the first gondola up the Marmolada, where the beautiful ridges are waiting for us to be the first to be skied. Afterwards we'll go up once more to enjoy the beautiful views. After skiing the Marmolada twice, we will take the bus back to the Civetta ski area. Here we can discover this fantastic quiet ski area all afternoon until we descend to the Zoldo valley. From here we return to Villa Vittorio.

Villa Vittorio

The first and last night of the hut to hut tour you will stay in Villa Vittorio, our own B&B. Villa Vittorio has some doublerooms and more-bed rooms. There is a shared bathroom.

Dinner at Villa Vittorio

Dinner at Villa Vittorio Dinner is not inlcuded in the overnight stay at Villa Vittorio. But of course we won't let you go to sleep without dinner. The first evening we will have dinner at the pizzeria in the village below (10 miutes walk). The last evening we will end with a dinner at, a restauarnt with local specialties, to end our nice tour together in style. The costs for both dinners are not included in the total price.

3 course menu in the rifugio

In the rifugios you will sleep in a multi-bed room or a dormitory. The bathrooms are always shared in the rifugios. When you arrive at the refuge you will be asked to fill in the menu. The rifugios offer a 3-course menu: a primo piatto (1st course), a secondo piatto (2nd course) and a dolce (dessert). The next morning at 7:30 the breakfast will be served, so we can leave in time.

Simple

Although rifugios have long ceased to be simple mountain huts, you shouldn't expect the luxury of a hotel either. Compare it to a simple guest house. It is still a stay on top of the mountain, where all the supplies have to be brought up and all the waste has to be transported back down. The water supply may also be limited at altitude. For example, not all refuges have drinkable tap water.

As you will bring all your luggage for the tour in your backpack, it is important to pack as little as possible. You carry your own stuff for a large part of the day, so you can take less with you as you are used to. A backpack of 25-30 liters is more than enough to carry everything you need in 4 days.

Actually you will only need the following things:

  • Your skiing gear (which you will carry during the day)
  • Something comfortable while in the refuge
  • Something to sleep in
  • Clean underwear and socks
  • Toiletries (small pack size)

To make it easy for you I enclosed a packing list .

It is important to be able to ski a red slope easily and comfortable and also to have no fear of skiing unknown slopes. I try to take the level into account as much as possible, but as we ski from one area to another, there is sometimes no alternative to certain slopes and you may have to descend a slightly more difficult slope. Basically, all the slopes we do are red or blue. We only do black runs in consultation with the group.

  • Liftpass Your pass can best be bought online https://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/Ski-pass/Prices . When buying the ski-pass at least 2 days ahead, you'll get a 5% discount.
  • Insurance Please make sure you have a travel insurance, which also covers mountaineering. Also check whether the health insurance covers costs made abroad.
  • Hiring ski equipment Ski equipment can be rented at the bottom of the gondola in Pecol. You can do this the day before the start of the tour. But, as we will start our tour there, you can also rent your equipment early in the morning, we will make sure to be in time at the ski rental.
  • Paying in refuges It's not always possible to pay by card in the refuges. Make sure you carry enough cah with you to pay for your drinks and other expenses.
  • Will I ski with my bakcpack the whole day? Basically you will take your backpack with you all day, but as soon as possible, we'll put the backpacks somewhere where we will come back later, so we can also ski without a backpack. Expect to ski with your backpack about 60% of the time.
  • Longer stay It is possible to stay one or more nights extra in Villa Vittorio before or after the tour. Please contact us for more information..
  • How to come to Forno di Zoldo Our B&B is located in Forno di Zoldo, which is on the east side of the Dolomites. As we are relatively close to Venice, we are also easily accessible by plane. From Venice Airport it is about a 1:15 hours drive to Forno di Zoldo. There are also buses running to Longarone (about 1 hour), which is located at the beginning of our valley. From there we can arrange a transfer for you. Coming from the north by car, it's about an hour longer drive than to the more famous Val Gardena or Val di Fassa. Immediately after the Brenner Pass you will leave the highway to the Pusteria Valley.
