Skiing form hut to hut

What is a ski hut tour?

A ski hut tour is an adventurous way to explore the mountains. You will ski or snowboard from hut to hut with a group of like-minded people every day.
With a ski hut tour with BergXperience, you simply go up with the lift and down the slopes, so it is not a ski touring tour.

What is really great about a ski hut tour is that you will ski in a different area every day. Actually, you will never ski the same slope twice. But ofcourse on request, and if there is time for it, a nice descent can be made one more time.

Sleeping in a rifugio

Scattered throughout the Dolomiti Superski area there are many so-called "rifugios". Rifugio literally means "shelter", but nowadays they are a kind of simple guesthouses, where you can spend the night and eat. We just simply call them a “hut”.
During a ski hut tour you ski from one rifugio to the next and every night you sleep in a different rifugio high in the mountains. In the evening you can enjoy the Italian hospitality, the conviviality, the delicious food and unforgettable views. In the morning you will be the first on the freshly groomed slopes.

Who is a ski hut tour suitable for

Anyone who can ski or snowboard reasonably well and has a sporty attitude can join a hut tour. We expect you to be able to go down a red slope with ease, but even the occasional black slope should not be a problem. In principle, the entire tour can be done without skiing any black slopes.

You should also be able to ski with a medium-sized backpack for the entire tour. It is often possible to leave the backpack somewhere for a few hours or longer, but it is also possible you will have to carry your backpack all day.

In the morning we get up around seven o'clock, have breakfast and then leave between half past eight and nine o'clock. So sleeping in is not an option. We often take a coffee break and of course we will stop at a nice place for lunch. Around 16.00 we arrive at the next hut. The real die-hards can still ski until half past four or later.

How long does a ski hut tour take

Even if you ski from hut to hut for only three days, you are already doing a ski hut tour. But of course you can also go longer. Many organizations offer a one-week hut-to-hut tour as standard, where you will ski through the area for 6 days. However, some people find a whole week a bit long for a hut-to-hut tour. Understandable, because it can be quite tiring to ski long days all week. It could also be that you want to ski for a week, but want to take it easy for 1 or 2 days, or that you just can't go away for a whole week.
That is why BergXperience offers standard ski hut tours of 4 days or of 5 days, with an extended stay if desired. Of course, you can also do a whole week trip with your own group.

Guiding

As already indicated, you ski a ski hut tour under supervision. The guide knows the area like very well, shows you the most beautiful places in the Dolomites and knows the beautiful places to take a break and have lunch. Under this guidance, you won't have to worry about getting lost, missing a bus, or missing the last cablecar to the rifugio. Plus, there's no need to waste time reading maps or discussing the route. Of course, the guide will be happy to show you where we have been and where we are going.
Many participants in a ski hut tour love the fact that they don't have to think about where to go during the entire tour, they can just follow the guide and focus on their skiing technique or just enjoy the scenic descents.

Dolomiti Superski area

BergXperience offers tours in the Italian Dolomites, in the Dolomiti Superski area. This ski area consists of twelve sub-areas with a total of about 1200 kilometers of slopes, all accessible on one single ski pass. In the Dolomiti Super Ski Area, they have elevated slope grooming to an art form. Every evening from half past 6, the piste bullies go out to ensure perfectly groomed slopes the next day.
In addition, the Dolomites offer fantastic views during your hut-to-hut tour. The Dolomites are on the Unesco World Heritage List for a reason. Especially with the snow-capped peaks, the steep rock massifs which are so characteristic for the Dolomites are even more impressive.

Special experience

A ski hut tour is not just a skiing holiday. With a "normal" winter sports holiday, every day you will have to return to the hotel where you left that morning. The nice thing about a ski hut tour is that you only go further each time and can therefore cover a much larger area. Actually, a ski hut tour is the only way to be able to explore a big part of a ski area in the size of Dolomiti Superski.

A word of caution is in order here: once you have skied a ski hut tour, it is difficult to 'just' ski back next time to your hotel or apartement in the valley.
