A self guided hiking tour from hut to hut through the area that also includes the world-famous AV1, but less crowded. Well-known highlights such as Croda da Lago, 5 Torri and Passo Giau will be visited via an alternative route.
It is also possible to hike the whole AV1 or some part of it.
The basis of this self guided hiking tour leads you in 3 days from the foot of the Pelmo to Croda da Lago and via the 5 Torri area back to Val di Zoldo. By choosing a different starting point, the route can easily be expanded to a four- or five-day variant. Choosing another end point or a trip (costing two days extra) to the beautifully situated Rifugio Lagazuoi is also possible.
It is also possbile to hike the whole AV1 or some other part of the AV1. As the AV1 is very popular, it is important to start booking early. Some rifugios are fully booked one year ahead!
Price:
from € 425,- pp (3 days)
from € 575,- pp (4 days)
from € 695- pp (5 days)
Have a look at an alternative route of 3 days with some original legs of the AV1 but also some quiet parts.
From the starting point at the foot of the Pelmo, you will start your ascend to Rifugio Città di Fiume through the meadows between the cows and horses. After a coffee and dolce, the trail continues up, following the AV1, until you turn onto the Forcella Ambrizola to Croda da Lago. This rifugio is located on a beautiful lake, where you can relax and enjoy the amazing views.
Today you start your hike around the lake Fedare, and then continue via a steep descent through the forest to your next ascend towards 5 Torri. IThe climb is not too long, so if you feel like it and have time, you can make a tour around the famous 'towers' and visit the Italian fighting positions from WWI. There are several rifugios to spend the night here. Maybe we can book Nuvolau for an overnight stay, very spectacular, but also booked up very quickly.
From 5 Torri back to Val di Zoldo is not a very difficult, but pretty long hike. From 5 Torri we will hike a less common (and therefore quieter) trail to end up at famous Passo Giau. From here we will follow the AV1 again, to turn off after an hour and again take quieter trails back to the foot of the Pelmo.

Villa Vittorio
As all tours start from Forno di Zoldo, you will sleep the night before the tour in Villa Vittorio, our own B&B. Villa Vittorio has 2-person rooms and 1 multi-bed room. The bathroom is shared.
Simple
Although rifugios have long ceased to be simple mountain huts, you shouldn't expect the luxury of a hotel either. Compare it to a simple guest house.
It is still a stay on top of the mountain, where all the supplies have to be brought up and all the waste has to be transported back down. Mostly you will sleep in a more-beds room or a dormitory in the rifugio. The bathrooms are always shared. he water supply may also be limited at altitude. Similarly not all huts have drinkable water.
Private rooms
On your request, I can try to make a reservation for a smaller room. Not all rifugios have those, and if they do, they only have a few, which are often booked up very fast. For a smaller room, a separate surcharge per person will be charged, this will be indicated in the travel proposal.
3-course dinner
When you arrive at the rifugio, you will be asked to fill in the menu. The rifugios offer a 3-course menu: a primo piatto (1st course), a secondo piatto (2nd course) and a dolce (dessert). The next morning from 7 a.m./8:30 a.m., breakfast is ready, so you can continue your hike in time.
In any case, what you need is a good backpack and hiking boots A/B with good profile and a rain jacket.
In the attached packing list you will find what to bring. Material in the frame marked with * can be borrowed from BergXperience for a small fee. Handy, especially if it's the first time you're doing a hut-to-hut tour, so you don't have to buy everything yourself.
