Group hiking tour 4 days

During this four day self guided hiking tour, the stages will be some shorter than the ones in the three-day variant. You will start on almost deserted trails through a lesser-known part of the Dolomites. From day 2 you will hike AV 1 from south to north, hiking along the impressively steep walls of the Civetta and Moiazza.

Around the Civetta in 4 days

This four day self guided hiking tour in a group is a bit less strenuous than the 3-day variant. The stages will be around 4 hours of pure walking time and the last day you can choose whether you return by bus or make it a longer day and hike back.

It's a group tour, but feel free to hike (partially) alone if you prefer to do so. For example because you can keep your own pace without waiting for others or feel 'chased' when others are faster. You will meet the other participants again in the next hut.

If you want to do this tour, but not as a group tour, or the date is not convenient? No problem, you can also book this tour individually or with your own group.

Day 1 Passo Duran

The night before the hut-to-hut tour you will sleep in B&B Villa Vittorio. You will also meet the other participants and receive an explanation of the exact route.

After a good night's sleep and a delicious breakfast, you will be transferred to Pralongo where the tour starts with two steep climbs. First to Colcerver, a cute deserted village and then through the forest up to the foot of the San Sebastiano. From there, you won't make many more elevation meters. You will spend the night on the Passo Duran.

Rise up early for breakfast as today's hike will be the longest of the trip. Along the way, you'll enjoy the breathtaking views of the incredibly steep walls of the Moiazza. Between the perpendicular walls of Moiazza and Civetta, the Vazzoler hut is beautifully situated. Here you can enjoy a well-deserved rest.

From Vazzoler you will hike up in the direction of Tissi. This hut is beautifully situated in the middle of the stage and therefore ideal for lunch and enjoying the fantastic view of the Marmolada. You will have to climb a bit extra for it, but it's totally worth it.
After lunch, you will continue through the beautiful surroundings to Lake Coldai and rifugio Coldai, where you will spend the night.

Today it is up to you whether it will be a short day or a longer one.
From Coldai you can go down to Pecol in about 1.5 hours. From there you can catch the bus back to Forno di Zoldo. You can also hike back. Depending on the route, this will take you 4-6 hours extra. Tired but satisfied, you will return to Villa Vittorio.

Villa Vittorio

As all tours start from Forno di Zoldo, you will sleep the night before the tour in Villa Vittorio, our own B&B. Villa Vittorio has 2-person rooms and 1 multi-bed room. The bathroom is shared.

3-course dinner

In the rifugios you will sleep in a multi-bed room or a dormitory. The bathrooms are always shared in the rifugios. When you arrive at the rifugio, you will be asked to fill in the menu. The rifugios offer a 3-course menu: a primo piatto (1st course), a secondo piatto (2nd course) and a dolce (dessert). The next morning from 7 a.m./8:30 a.m., breakfast is ready, so you can continue your hike in time.

Simple

Although rifugios have long ceased to be simple mountain huts, you shouldn't expect the luxury of a hotel either. It is still a stay on top of the mountain, where all the supplies have to be brought up and all the waste has to be transported back down. The water supply may also be limited at altitude. Similarly, not all huts have drinkable water. Compare it to a simple guest house.

On your request, I can try to make a reservation for a smaller room. Not all rifugios have those, and if they do, they only have a few, which are often booked up very fast. For a smaller room, a separate surcharge per person will be charged, this will be indicated in the travel proposal.

In any case, what you need is a good backpack and hiking boots A/B with good profile and a rain jacket.

In the attached packing list you will find what to bring. Material in the frame marked with * can be borrowed from BergXperience for a small fee. Handy, especially if it's the first time you're doing a hut-to-hut tour, so you don't have to buy everything yourself.

  • Insurance Please make sure you have a travel insurance, which also covers mountaineering. Also check whether the health insurance covers costs made abroad.
  • Paying in refuges It's not always possible to pay by card in the refuges. Make sure you carry enough cah with you to pay for your drinks and other expenses.
  • Waste  Since most mountain huts, and especially those that are only open in summer, can only be reached on foot, the supply and disposal of waste is a challenge. This is often done with a small goods lift and the last part on foot. That is why the managers of the rifugios ask you to leave as little waste as possible behind and to take your own waste back to the valley as much as possible. You will therefore find few trash cans in a mountain hut.
  • Member of a mountaineering club We assume that everyone who regularly hikes in the mountains is a member of a mountaineering club. Some rifguios offer a discount when you are a member (of an European mountaineering club). This discount has been taken into account in the pricing of the tour. Any additional costs due to not being a member will be paid by BergXperience. If you are a member, please show your membership card when checking in at the rifugio.
  • Your stay at Villa Vittorio The night before your tour you will stay in Villa Vittorio, as the tour basically starts from here. If desired, it is possible to book one or more extra nights in Villa Vittorio before or after your tour. Please contact us for more information..
  • How to come to Forno di Zoldo Our B&B is located in Forno di Zoldo, which is on the east side of the Dolomites. From Northern Europe you drive immediately after the Brenner Pass via the Pusteria Valley. Because we are relatively close to Venice, we are easily accessible by plane. From Venice Airport it is about a 1:15 hour drive to Forno di Zoldo. There are also buses running to Longarone (about 1 hour), which is located at the beginning of our valley. From there we can arrange a transfer for you.
