In the Dolomiti Super Ski Area, they have elevated the preparation of the slopes to an art. Every day, immediately after the last piste control, the pistes are the domain of the piste groomers. From that moment (around 5 o'clock) no one is allowed on the slopes. The next morning the slopes are beautiful again: nice and tight and smooth with delicious ridges. One of the many reasons to ski a skihut tour : to be the first to enjoy these wonderful ridges.
The slopes in the Dolomiti Super Ski Area are generally not very difficult (in my humble opinion), partly because they are so well groomed every day and also because many slopes are nice and wide. Even black slopes are not all very difficult, although there are, of course, exceptions.
During a skihut tour we hardly ever ski the same slope twice, which means that we visit and ski down a lot of different slopes. I can now say that I know all the slopes very well. And, although I always enjoy skiing in the Dolomites, there are certainly some of slopes that are my favorite. It will not surprise you that these are mainly black slopes, which we only do in consultation during a hut tour.
For each sub-area I mention a few favorite runs in the Dolomiti Superski area..

1 Marmolada
How could it be otherwise, of course the Marmolada is at the top of my list of favourite runs. If only because it is a wonderfully long - red - descent, so you have genuinely tired legs when you arrive at the end of the run; if you manage to ski the entire descent in one go. But it is also always a joy to come out on top after 3 cabin lanes. You can go on the panorama terrace there, but even if you don't, the view is breathtaking. You really feel 'on top of the world'. The run starts with a beautiful, fairly steep descent, but above all nice and wide, so very doable.
I think the special thing about the Marmolada is that it is different every time. The circumstances can vary so much. Especially after some fresh snow and then being the first to descend, that is really unparalleled.
At the end of the day, the lower part of the descent is a bit 'kicked off', but then you have already enjoyed the entire descent so much that this is no problem.
2 The Hidden Valley
Actually, you shouldn’t call the descent from Rifugio Lagazuoi to Armentarola like this, but that's how it is best known. This wonderfully long red descent runs from Lagazuoi all the way down to Capana Alpina, where you are towed behind the horses to Armentarola. What makes this descent special is that you do not end up at the bottom of the lift with which you came up. You therefore only do this descent once. Partly because of this, this descent is not very busy (although the cabin to Lagazuoi can be quite busy). Apart from all these particularities, it is just a wonderful red descent to swing nicely. Stretches of (wide) path interspersed with pieces of track. The views along the way are amazing, so remember to look around and enjoy yourself along the way! Almost down you pass Scotoni, a nice hut for coffee or lunch. I always like to take a glance at the alpacas there. A little further down is a beautiful large frozen waterfall. Impressive to see. Also very nice is that there are often ice climbers practicing on this waterfall.

3 Faloria
I often call Faloria the hidden gem of the Dolomites, where some of my favourite runs are located. Where most people go to the more famous Tofana, Faloria, located on the other side of Cortina, is slightly less crowded (especially in the morning, when you have slept there, you almost have the slopes to yourself). There are some fantastic black runs here, which are very easy to ski, because they are well groomed. The best downhill run here is the giant slalom downhill run of the Olympic Games in 1956. A super nice long descent with nice long curves and a few wonderful drops.
4 Gran Risa
Where Alta Badia seems to be best known for its many blue slopes, there is also another, challenging slope here: the Gran Risa, one of my favourtie runs in this area. The giant slalom World Cup takes place on this track every year. The black slope is a tough descent, but you can also ski outside on the red slope. Also beautiful, but just a little less challenging.

5 San Pellegrino
Another World Cup giant slalom run. This time in San Pellegrino, Val di Fassa. From the Col Marguerita this is a beautiful descent. I can't get enough of it myself: taking the gondola up and whizzing down... Even at the end of the day I like to do it 4 or 5 times before the cabine closes....
6 Arabba
The main ski resort of Arabba is a true paradise in my eyes, so here are also some favourite runs. A pretty steep mountain with several steep, black slopes on it. Beautifully situated on the north slope, so they stay good all day! Most people visit Arabba during their 'Sella Ronda', where everyone skis over the same part to follow the lap. This red slope is therefore quite mogul early in the day and not so nice for skiing. But all those slopes around it are almost not skied... So: Arabba is so much more than the Sella Ronda, especially for the more advanced skiers.

7 Cortina Tofana
It should come as no surprise that you can ski fantastically in Cortina d'Ampezzo on the Tofana side. For me, there are 2 descents here that stand out. And no, the one of the World Cup downhill for women that is held here every year in January is not one of them...
Descent 51 from Tofana, on the other hand, is. This is the only descent you can do from Tofana, and I have to say: it can be quite tough. When I'm on the Tofana with a group, I sometimes advise people to go down with the cablecar, because I find this descent just a bit too difficult. Especially because circumstances can change quite suddenly. But....if you have enough technique, it is a fantastically beautiful descent.
What is just a lot of fun to ski in Cortina is from Pomedes outside over the red and blue descent all the way down to Socrepes. Not difficult, but very beautiful and nice and long!
There are so many beautiful descents in the Dolomiti Superski area, and if you cross the area with a ski hut tour, you will get to know many different descents and the nice thing is that you can do a lot of them in just one holiday!
Do you feel like doing one of these runs? Take a look at BergXperience's ski hut tours. During a tou, we will definitely do one or more of these runs.
